Like many small and medium-sized businesses, Stijn Dirken of SD Schrijnwerkerij & Interieurbouw was struggling with a lack of cargo space and load capacity. His delivery vans didn’t offer enough room to transport all the materials. Late last year, he approached LMJ Construct in search of a transportation solution.
Looking for cargo volume and payload capacity
“Together with Carl Van Gorp, we discussed various options: a BE-class trailer, a carpenter truck (which is a rigidly coupled semi-trailer that LMJ Construct manufactures specifically for the carpentry sector), a van with a trailer combination… For me, it was important to have plenty of payload capacity and cargo volume, but above all, it had to be a vehicle that could be driven with a BE driver’s license. Furthermore, the solution had to be easy to integrate with our existing delivery vans, all of which are equipped with furniture-carrying bodies and tow hitch equipment,” explains manager Stijn Dirken.
Van and Humbaur Trailer Combination
Ultimately, the decision was made to use a combination of a delivery van and Humbaur trailers with a through-loading system. “This allows us to load and unload large volumes and heavy loads very quickly. This combination offers an additional payload capacity of 2,000 kg and provides 27 m³ of extra cargo volume on top of the 23 m³ offered by the delivery vans themselves. That’s more than enough to transport the necessary materials,” said Carl Van Gorp.
Humbaur trailers can be easily hitched to all of SD’s commercial vehicles. The vehicles are not subject to the mileage tax, do not require a speed limiter or a tachograph, and can be driven with a BE driver’s license.
